Incorrect spelling and punctuation can be the making or breaking of a message.

While everyone was taught about the importance of correct grammar at school, many didn’t bother to pay attention and are now reaping the consequences.

A missing apostrophe, colon or comma can turn a simple order into a sinister-sounding message that wouldn’t look out of place in a horror film.

As people rely more and more on auto correct functions on a computer, mistake-laden writing is becoming increasingly common.

Whether it is a friend writing about their emotions in a text or a fast food business advertising their latest deals, there is always room for an embarrassing slip-up.

And now that everybody owns a camera phone, the often amusing incidents can be recorded forever.

These two images are an important lesson in the use of commas.

This student decided to suggest a colourful dress code for fellow members of their homecoming, but ended up making a bizarre racial statement.

The same applies to the text below, which was meant to be romantic but instead disgusted its recipient.

A reminder that spellcheck isn’t foolproof.

The sign below wouldn’t have flagged up any errors on a computer system, but it certainly did when witnessed by humans.

This would be a strange and particularly harsh punishment for shoplifters.

The above and below images once again show how important the comma is when it comes to punctuation.

While the sign above appears to target an impossible demographic thanks to a lack of punctuation, the message below, entered into a doctor’s notes, is equally alarming.

Please don’t: The bread bin at this store is encouraging very unhygienic behaviour

Often a misspelled word can make for rather unsanitary conditions.

For instance, in the above picture, use of a tongue instead of a tong to remove the bread from the basket would have fellow shoppers recoiling in horror.

In the below image, replacing an E with an A is enough to make the reader feel nauseous.

Commas and colons are two of the most misused tools in punctuation.

Doubtless, the adult in the above picture had no intentions of eating any children, while in the picture below, the owner of the land is actually getting the opposite of his point across.
