Nigeria's FUPRE rules Africa, wins energy efficiency, technical innovation awards at SEMA 2015

''Team FUPRE' won the 'TECHNICAL INNOVATION' category in the “OFF-TRACK AWARDS" as well as the 'energy efficiency (Petrol)' category in the "ON-TRACK RESULTS AWARDS" at the Shell Eco-marathon, Africa (SEMA) 2015.


One of teams representing Nigeria at the Shell Eco-marathon, Africa (SEMA) 2015, 'Team FUPRE' of the Federal University of Petroleum Resources (FUPRE), has won two categories of awards.
According to results released on the SEMA page of the Shell Global website, ''Team FUPRE' won the 'TECHNICAL INNOVATION' category in the “OFF-TRACK AWARDS" as well as the 'energy efficiency (Petrol)' category in the "ON-TRACK RESULTS AWARDS".

Hosted by the School of Electrical Engineering of the University of Johannesburg, the SEMA racing event took take place at the Zwartkops Raceway, South Africa.
'Team ABU 1' of the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, came third in the 'energy efficiency (Petrol)' category' while 'Team UNILAG' of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) came fifth in the 'energy efficiency (Plug-In)' category.
An impressive performance from 'Team Uniben 1' of the University of Benin (UNIBEN) saw them emerge winners of the ‘energy efficiency (Diesel)' category'.

Twelve student teams from universities in South Africa and Nigeria battled for ultimate energy efficiency with self-built energy-efficient cars from the 2nd to the 4th of October.
Teams from Nigeria, collectively known as Team Nigeria, were sponsored by the Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited (SPDC) Joint Venture.
